Stäubli Robotics shows how robots perform pharmaceutical packaging at PACK EXPO 2022

POSTED 10/07/2022

PACK EXPO International, a major event in the packaging and processing industry, returns after a four-year hiatus on October 23-26 to McCormick Place in Chicago. New technologies are always a highlight of the show. This year Stäubli Robotics will demonstrate automation solutions with robots designed for use in pharmaceutical production.

The expansion of automation is transforming production lines across industries. In pharma, the demands of meeting stricter regulatory requirements while scaling production, compounded by the rise of personalized medicine, have created new challenges. Robots traditionally used in primary and secondary packaging and palletizing are growing more sophisticated and taking on more complex tasks in fill-finish, labelling, QA testing and inspection.

In West Hall, Booth 18025 at PACK EXPO, Stäubli Robotics will demonstrate how its TX2-60 Stericlean robot precisely picks and places medical device components with the help of an Asyril flexible feeding platform. The Asyril uses AI-based vision to locate acceptable parts and transmit their pick coordinates to the robot. Production is tracked by means of a monitor, allowing for traceability and process improvement.

Stäubli’s Stericlean robots are designed for life science applications, and operate safely within Grade A, B and C environments. Their fully enclosed structure with special seals minimizes airborne particles. A smooth surface protected by a high-resistance coating eliminates retention areas. The robots are also highly flexible, adapting readily to different drug delivery formats such as vials, IV bags, syringes, cartridges and transdermal devices as well as digitally connected wearables.

史陶比尔也将展示其快速,紧凑TS2-100 SCARA robot, from the 2021 Red Dot Award-winning TS2 series. Ideally suited for high-speed flex feeding applications, TS2 SCARA robots are also used in downstream production processes including primary and secondary packaging. The robot’s proprietary JCS drive technology facilitates ultra-short cycle times and high repeatability.

Beyond pharma and the broader life science sector, Stäubli robots are used in other industries with sensitive environments. This will be represented at PACK EXPO by several of Stäubli’s partners: Capmatic, a maker of automated packaging systems, will demonstrate its Galaxy line machine with two Stäubli TX2-60 robots in Booth S-1758. Dukane, which specializes in welding technologies, will demonstrate an ultrasonic cutting process using a Stäubli TX2-90 HE (humid environment) robot in Booth S-4009. And in Booth S-2858, automation system developer Mpac Group will exhibit its Diablo assembly machine platform with integrated Stäubli TX2 and TS2 robots.
